We Listened to Our Farmers – Tianjin Power Machinery Upgrades Parts Based on Real Use in India and the US
It’s one thing to make a replacement part that fits a New Holland or a Massey Ferguson. It’s another thing to make one that lasts – in Indian black cotton soil, or through a 14-hour day on an American Combine.
That’s what our team at Tianjin Power Machinery has been thinking about for the past six months. We make aftermarket parts and bearings for AGCO, CLAAS, and other major brands. We also have our own factory in Tianjin. But until recently, we designed mostly for “general conditions.” Then we started talking more seriously to our customers in India and the United States.
The feedback was clear: good parts, but can be better.
So we went back to the workshop and broke the work into three real problems – not fancy words, just what customers told us.

1. Molds that actually match the soil
Our Indian distributors told us: “Your plow tips work fine in light soil, but in our harder, drier ground, they wear unevenly.” In the US, a farm equipment dealer said: “When you run continuous tillage with high horsepower, the part comes out of the mold with slight stress marks we don’t like.”
So we redesigned several molds. Not a full overhaul – but we changed the cooling channels, added ribs where stress builds, and adjusted the draft angles. For India, we made the mold stronger in high-wear zones. For the US, we improved cooling uniformity to avoid distortion. Result? Mold life is up about 20%, and parts come out more consistent. One Indian buyer already noticed less variation across a 500-piece order.

2. Quality that survives real weather
Here’s a concrete example: some of our bearings and cultivator points sent to the US Midwest showed early surface rust after a wet spring. Not a failure, but a complaint. In India, a customer saw coating flaking on disk blades after working in sandy loam.
We didn’t just switch to a “better” coating. We tested. Now, for tillage parts going to high-humidity or abrasive environments, we use thermal diffusion zinc instead of standard electroplating. Lab salt spray test went from 240 hours to over 720 hours. For bearings, we added a tighter seal spec and changed the grease for high-temperature continuous operation.
We also built a simple internal rule: each market gets a “material card” – soil type, typical moisture, hours per day. It sounds basic, but it forces our production team to ask “where is this part going?” before plating or heat treatment.
3. Precision that makes installation boring
This one came from a US aftermarket distributor who sells our parts to repair shops. He said: “Your fit is good, but sometimes the bolt holes are off by a hair. Mechanics notice. They don’t complain loudly, but they remember.”
That’s fair. So we pulled out our old lathes and brought in more CNC machining for key dimensions – like mounting holes, shafts, and bearing seats. Tolerances went from ±0.10mm down to ±0.03mm. We also bought a CMM (coordinate measuring machine) and a laser profilometer. Now we measure every precision batch, not just a sample.
We even started keeping an “OEM reference cabinet” – original parts from New Holland, Claas, AGCO – and we measure ours against them. Most of the time we match. Now we want to be consistently inside the OEM range, not just close.

What’s next?
We’re not claiming to be perfect. But we are changing how we work. The technical team now meets every two weeks with the export sales people to go over new field photos and comments. One US customer sent us a picture of a worn bearing with a note: “the seal failed on the left side only.” That picture led to a new seal design within three weeks.
The first batch of updated parts – plow tips, disk blades, reel assemblies, and several bearings – is already being tested by a few farms in Punjab (India) and Iowa (US). If those tests go well, we’ll switch the whole production line by early next year.
About Tianjin Power Machinery
We’re a family-owned factory in Tianjin, China, making agricultural parts and bearings for global brands like AGCO, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, and Claas. Our main export markets are India and the United States. We’re not the biggest supplier. But we try to be the one that actually reads customer emails.
